LASIK Cost

Table of Contents

What Does LASIK cost?

In our center, the cost of LASIK surgery varies between 1500$-2800$ per eye, depending on the condition of your eyes and the exact type of surgery that you need.

The factors that influence the price are: the magnitude of your prescription, the presence of astigmatism, corneal thickness, the exact type of procedure you need for best outcomes (LASIK, LASEK, PRK, IntraLASIK etc.) and other factors related to the overall condition of your eyes.

I often see offers like 499$/eye? Can that be?

No. No one can offer you LASIK or a similar refractive procedure for that price. The reason is very simple: this price is far below the cost of traditional LASIK to the providers themselves. These offers are only “bait and switch” tactics to lure you in to inexperienced and/or unaccomplished surgeons.

Other centers, known as “low cost” centers sometimes offer LASIK at a significantly discounted rates (in the 1000$/eye neighborhood). Beware of and inquire about what exactly you are getting. There are many possible ways to cut corners in the operating room and reduce the cost of LASIK, but that is not in your best interest. Instead look for “value” and shop for experience and reputation. See where doctors and their families have their own LASIK done.

Saving money in exchange for taking a greater risk with your eyes is not a smart choice.

The cost of “properly done LASIK” is lower than what you would spend over time on contact lenses, glasses, and eye exams. Moreover, we can arrange for you a payment plan (with zero or low interest) that would spread the payments and reduce the financial burden.

Will my health insurance cover LASIK?

There are only a few health insurance plans that cover LASIK fully as a benefit. However, many plans will provide you with a significant discount towards the procedure. Please talk to our surgical coordinator to get more information about your specific plan and the costs you can expect for your procedure. We will provide you with comprehensive information on your payment options as well as your insurance coverage for LASIK surgery.

Flexible Spending Plans to Pay for LASIK

One of the best ways to reduce your costs is with a flexible spending health plan. Many employer health plans include flexible spending accounts that allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible health care related expenses, such as LASIK surgery. Depending upon your income and tax bracket, this could save you as much as $2,000.

Contributions to these plans are made through automatic and regular deductions from your paychecks. Since the funds placed in the account are not taxed, they go much further in covering eligible medical expenses. LASIK surgery is often categorized as an eligible expense, which means that your flexible benefits options can help you pay for the correction of your nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism. For more information on this type of plan, consult with your health insurance benefits administrator.
